About Me
Artist Statement
Growing up as a digital native, I observe how my generation consumes more images than words and how information travels around the world at light speed. We spend more time on social media, such as Instagram, Snapchat, and many other image-based programs. Living in an overwhelming and stressful environment, I found art-making as a process to slow myself down and train myself to pay attention to what is happening around me and to observe details, objects, and stories that. I often ignore.
My aim is to show the impact of individuals and encourage individuals to make changes. It always surprises me whenever I realize how different we have moved on from the past, good or bad. As we develop and improve the society we build together, there is convenience, but we always overuse the resource to cause harm to the environment. Sometimes, we realize the existence of issues, but we tend to ignore them and feel powerless to take further action.
Therefore, art is amazing at bring people together while bringing problems to the surface. For me, objects, prints and drawings all have the power to convey messages. In design, I focus on the materials and how multiple functions on one object reduce unnecessary waste and load on the environment. I like viewers to feel and play with the objects, to discover their potential uses. In printmaking, I use vibrant colors and images on prints to attract viewers' attention and create a relatively comfortable space between me and the viewers. The colorful and playful palette on the prints immediately draws viewers' curiosity to explore the content behind the images. I want to use different medias to communicate and have a conversation with audience, especially many social or environmental issues that usually result in contentions and awkward feelings during regular conversation.
